Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21
About the Project:
Working with the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 as they underwent a transformation from a regional to a national museum, BBM Designs collaborated with RLMG to create a suite of media exhibits to illuminate the immigrant experience.
In a series of interactive exhibits, visitors learn about some of Canada’s most difficult refugee challenges and decide what they would have done if they had been the immigration officer in charge; they put themselves in the role of an immigrant at different times in history to decide where they would have chosen to live; and they decide which items to pack to make it through Customs.
For a set of 30 oral history stations, BBM Designs created an extensive and highly flexible content management system to allow Museum staff to update and add to the existing stories. This CMS-based approach was also used in an expanding exhibit on the immigration communities throughout Canada.
